Chapter 2 - Nivēdana Prakāśa

|| Nivēdana Prakāśa ||2||

(The Light of Petition)

|| Rāga Darabārī ||1|
(To be sung in Rāga Darabārī)

|*| Manamohana-Chanda |*|1|
(Composed in a meter known as ‘Manamohana’)

avagun gan jab jān parat |
nij parachhāīṅ karau nasat|| ||viśrāma||

Rendition: Upon knowing my fallen position, my shadow runs away from me||Pause||

|*| Dōharā-Chanda |*|2|
(Composed in a meter known as ‘Dōharā’)

vaiṣṇava jana kī sūchi meṅ
hama na paraiṅ hama nīch|
jaise kāga suhāy nā
saba haṅsan ke bīch||1|
chanda kāvya rachanā kaṭhin
mātrā baran vidhān|
so ura meṅ āve nahīṅ
mūrakha hama ko jān||2|
ekala guna in chanda meṅ
 gaura-nitāī nāma|
pada-pada ke paga-paga saje
bhaktan ko sukhadhāma||3|

Rendition: My name does not appear in the list of Vaishnavas (It will anyway not look wonderful–) just like a crow does not look wonderful in the group of swans|1| The poetical composition is also difficult for me, for there are strict rules and regulations on the number of alphabets, vowels and pauses to be used. Knowing me to be a fallen entity, this knowledge also does not reside in my heart|2| There is but one good quality in this composition– that the Holy Name of Gaura-Nitāi, which is an abode of happiness for devotees, appears at many places in this book|3|

Illuminating Tendency (Prakāśikā-Vr̥tti)-
When śrīla Vyāsa-deva, after compiling Vedas, Upaniṣadas, Purāṇas and Mahābhārata - was unable to attain complete peace in his heart, then Nārada said to Him (Bhāgavatam 1/5/10-11)–
na yadvachaśchitrapadaṅ hareryaśo jagatpavitraṅ pragriṇīta kārhichita . yadvāyasaṅ tīrthamuśaṅti manasā na yatra haṅsā nirmantyuśikṣyāh - A poetical composition, even if of high quality with the perspective of rules of poetry, but is devoid of the Holy Name of Kṛṣṇa, is like a pilgrimage of crows. Just like the swans that live in the lake Mānasarovara do not bother to go such a filthy place, likewise the bhagavata devotees who have surrendered completely unto the Personality of Godhead do not show any inclination in hearing such compositions
tadvāgvisargo janatāghaviplavo yasmin pratiślokamabaddhavatyāpi . nāmānyanantasy yaśoankitāni yachhṛṇvanti gṛṇanti sādhavah - But on the other hand, if a composition contains many errors with the perpective of poetical rules, but which is filled with the glorious Name of the Personality of Godhead– such composition when heard and read in the association of devotees, destroys sins accumulated for millions of lifetimes. Surrendered devotees always attain happiness in reading and hearing such compositions|

nityānaṅda pratāp te
hama chālīsa bakhāna|
lakṣa koṭi ham te adhika
haiṅ kavibhakta sujāna||4|

Rendition: I was able to write this book only by the power of Nityānaṅda Prabhu, otherwise there is no dearth of millions of devotee-poets who are at a much higher spiritual realization than me|4|

Illuminating Tendency (Prakāśikā-Vr̥tti)- Nityānaṅda Prabhu is always immersed in the ocean of love towards Lord Gaura-Kṛṣṇa. He is an embodiment of Supreme Mercy, and His Mercy does not differentiate between a fallen and a devotee. He simply delivers everyone who comes and stands in front of Him. In Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī mentions about the Mercy of Nityānaṅda Prabhu in a mood of humbleness, as follows– preme matta nityānaṅda kṛpā avatāra| uttama adhama kichhu na kare vichāra|| je āge padaye tāra karaye uddhāra| ateva nistārila mohen durācāra||
The dear friend of Rādhikā known as ‘Kastūrī Maṅjarī’ has now appeared in the pastimes of Gaura as a great poet and a devotee by the Name of Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja. Although He is a Mahabhagavata, He has mentioned Himself as ‘mohen durācāra’ (I am most fallen)|
